Sustainable Jakarta Convention
“Sustainability” is one of the world’s most talked about but least understood words. Its meaning is often clouded by differing interpretations and by a tendency for the subject to be treaded superficially. For most companies, countries and individuals who take the subject seriously, the concept of sustainability embraces the preservation of the environment as well as critical development-related issues, such as the efficient use of resources, continual social progress, stable economic growth and the eradication of poverty.
Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, and its environs represents one of the fastest growing cities in the world, with 24 million inhabitants. The pace of change means we don’t have the luxury of time. By 2020 over 30 million people will need proper homes, access to water, waste disposal, living space for recreation and amenities, not to mention proper road infrastructure and an effective public transport system to address ever worsening traffic congestion.
How can we provide for the needs of today’s citizen, let alone the expectations of the next generation?
How can we contribute?
If you care about the future of Jakarta and want to do something to support sustainable city development, we invite you to explore this site.
Together we can shape a sustainable Jakarta!
