Developing Perspectives for Sustainable Future.

The theme for this workshop was "Developing Perspectives for Sustainable Future" and the event was opened by Ranidia Leeman, Holcim Awards Coordinator for Indonesia, followed by a presentation on the objective of Holcim Awards and what are the activities of Holcim Foundation, the initiator of this competition. Three speakers continue the event which were Prof. Gunawan Tjahjono (Professor in the University of Indonesia & Holcim Awards Regional Asia Pacific Jury Member), Myrza Yuliansyah (Architect & Holcim Awards 2nd Cycle Encouragement Prize Winner), and Lim Yu Sing (Architect & Holcim Awards Indonesia Winner).

Prof. Gunawan Tjahjono elaborated to the participants on what juries are looking for on this 3rd cycle competition, how the juries evaluate the entries using five target issues; Progress, People, Planet, Prosperity and Proficiency, and tips on how to get a good review from the juries. Both Lim Yu Sing and Myrza Yuliansyah shared their winning projects to the participants and encouraged them to be the next winner from Indonesia for Holcim Awards 3rd Cycle.

Again, the event was appreciated by the participants, which was seen by their enthusiasm in responding to the speakers' presentation and giving positive feedback to keynote's speaker's project. They too, proactively submitted numerous ideas for Holcim Awards, projects such as Revitalization of Cikapundung River Area from the 'People' group, Farm Waste Management for Alternative Energy Project from 'Prosperity' group, Asia Africa Village from 'Progress' group, and House in Dangerous Area System from 'Proficiency' group.

The Holcim Awards (main) category of the competition is open to architects, planners, engineers, project owners, builders and construction firms that showcase sustainable responses to technological, environmental, socioeconomic and cultural issues affective contemporary building and construction. Projects are eligible for the competition if they have reached an advanced stage of design and construction (or commercial production in the case of materials, products and construction technologies) had not started before July 1, 2010.
